Area of Focus
The program focuses on rural areas and priority is given to health care providers (HCP) that serve rural populations. The Michigan proposal to the FCC included over 350 HCP sites in the five most rural Medical Trading Areas (MTAs) of the state. The five MTAs are Upper Peninsula, Northern Lower Peninsula, Central Michigan, West Michigan and Southwestern Michigan. In addition to the MTAs, HCPs in the rural counties of Clinton, Eaton, Hillsdale, Lapeer, Lenawee, Shiawassee, and St. Clair are included. The providers include hospitals, Federally Qualified Health Clinics, Federally Designated Rural Health Clinics and Tribal Health Clinics.
