MPHI Contributions

On behalf of the State of Michigan, the Michigan Public Health Institute (MPHI) applied for a grant from the FCC's Rural Health Care Pilot Program. MPHI applied a unique combination of health care, IT, project management, and grant-writing experience to the task of drafting the 300-page application. It then applied its health care, IT, project management, and other expertise to the tasks of managing the $20.9 million award to advance the purposes of the Pilot Program within the State. MPHI designed three projects, recruited participants, posted Requests for Proposals (RFPs), selected vendors, negotiated contracts, submitted formal requests for funding, and facilitated invoicing as the projects were implemented.

MPHI is a non-profit organization established in 1990 to help improve the health of Michigan's citizens. Its 300+ employees—researchers, data analysts, IT professionals, project managers, and scientists trained in a broad array of health fields—maximize positive health conditions in Michigan communities through collaboration, scientific inquiry, and applied expertise. MPHI is governed by a board of 12 directors representing government, three partner universities, foundations, and others. Historically, its strongest contracting relationship has been with the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH).
